:::Rumour has it that the number exceeds 280 pieces, not including recent additions.

Some piece of literature -- I forget which -- notes that during their touring years, they performed over 250 original songs.

On recordings alone -- UB, EBB, and MC combined -- are about 175 Andrew Ratshin songs. So I'm guessing that Andrew has performed around 500 of his own songs. This is more than a little impressive. Jerome Kern, for example, wrote somewhat over 1000 songs -- but he only wrote the melody and sketched out the harmony; someone else fitted the words *later*, someone else did the orchestration, someone else directed and produced the shows, and someone else performed. Andrew does it all ... and thought he says it's painful to hear some that "didn't make it", the quality of the recorded songs is consistently excellent. Jerome Kern wrote a lot of highly forgettable songs; you couldn't find 175 of his songs to match Andrew's 175 recorded songs.

Personally I'd be deliriously happy if they did all new songs at every concert (assuming of course that they also recorded them ;-). I know it's not reasonable from several points of view -- fan desires, new audience attraction, fan club cohesiveness, ability to assign homework and audience buddies ... oh yeah, and composing and rehearsal time ... but I'm greedy, I want more.

The lyrics, of course, are almost all on the web site. I'd love to have a song book. Maybe one day ... sigh, one day ... I'll manage to get a few friends together to do a little singing, and though I know lots of material, I'd love to have some Bonsai songs to do without having to learn them off the recordings.

I have this repeating fantasy about being elected President ... oh, OK, don't we all, fantasies about persuading people to do things right and fairness and peace and all that. But the crux is when I stand up at the inaugural concert and say, You all may have wondered why I chose politics, why I've endured the pain and attacks and hard work and mudslinging. Well, tonight you know: I went through all of that for one reason: so I could invite Uncle Bonsai to sing at my inaugural.

Edward
