I'll play...I was online anyway!
My version is called "what's on the iPod?" Although there are 2000 - 3000 songs on this little machine, and I have one playlist with 84 favorites that I run through over and over again, there are a few whole albums that are currently receiving lots of airplay:

1. David Byrne - Grown Backwards
Just got it and I'm really enjoying it so far.

2. Jonatha Brooke - Back in the Circus
Have only heard the whole thing once. I'm not 100% sure yet. I love the original songs but the covers aren't doing it for me. (Although there's a nice version of the Beach Boys' "God Only Knows," I've been spoiled by an amazing version that Elvi Costello and The Brodsky Quartet did.) I liked her last CD, Steady Pull, but not as much as...

3. Jonatha Brooke - 10 Cent Wings
This CD doesn't leave the player. It's just about my favorite recording of the past 10 years and an example of a singer/songwriter at her peak. Everything she did before this, including all the Story recordings, was leading up to this one. I recommend it whole-heartedly to everyone who likes great songwriting coupled with great production.

4. Talking Heads - Naked
This is another of my favorites. It's probably back on the player because of the new David Byrne CD but I seem to keep coming back to it over and over again.

5. Garbage - Version 2.0
Another that's always on the player.

6. Elvis Costello and The Brodsky Quartet - The Juliet Letters
This is another all-time favorite. It's more than just great songwriting, it's a series of songs written for the quintet: voice and a string quartet. It's not just your typical string backup parts...it's really wonderful composition and is a great example of what you CAN do with a song. I'm always hearing something new and I highly recommend this CD.

It's a pretty eclectic group of songs on this iPod. There's lots of Elvis Costello, Alice Cooper, The Tubes, Trisha Yearwood, Garbage, Gregson and Collister, David Wilcox, Alison Krause, all of Jonatha Brooke, all The Beatles, some kd lang (Absolute Torch and Twang is another favorite), some New Grass Revival, Toad the Wet Sprocket (Dulcinea is another favorite), lots of Joe Jackson, lots of classical music, some Bowie, Tull, all the Dixie Chicks stuff, Al Kooper...this list goes on an on. In addition, there's a bunch of "unavailable" stuff on there -- there's an amazing unreleased Katie Peterson recording, from a live concert, that I've really been enjoying but she won't release it -- that hopefully someday will see the light of day.

That's it for now...next?

: OK. This place is getting quiet again and it looks as though no one's playing until August. I don't know if anyone checks in during the breaks, but I'll start a discussion.

: What's on your CD Player right now? What are the 5 CDs you're currently listening to? They don't have to be new CDs, just what's on there at the moment. They don't have to be Uncle Bonsai CDs, although I happen to have one on my list. I'll start:

: 1. Doug - Uncle Bonsai
: This is a really listenable CD! It's nice having the different voices but more than that, the songs are some of Andrew's best.
: 2. The Wind - Warren Zevon
: His last CD has some beautiful songs.
: 3. Richard Thompson - Old Kit Bag
: 4. Pink Floyd - The Wall (Just bought it.)
: 5. The Beatles - Let It Be (Naked)
