Sponge
Boy was only performed three times. Right away, that tells
you a lot about this song! Sometime in 1987 or 1988, Uncle
Bonsai returned home to Seattle to play three nights at The
Backstage in Ballard. It was at these shows that we decided
to teach the audience "Sponge Boy." This particular
recording was made on the third, and final, night of the
homestand, and the group knew that this song would probably
never be performed again. You see, as much as I hate to
admit it, Sponge Boy is not a very good song. - Excerpted from the
liner notes by Andrew Ratshin, April 16, 1999 OTHER

Sponge Boy is a two and a half minute song that, in the case
of this particular performance, took almost seventeen
minutes to teach and perform. That the three of us would go
up there and spend 14 minutes on this song says something
very special...at least, that's the way I'm going to look at
it!
